Accountancy 2012: Employment is stable and growing Back
Employment in Ireland's top accountancy firms is up. The Finance Dublin Accountancy Survey 2012 reveals a like for like comparison among 14 of the country's top firms shows an increase in employees of just over one per cent, from 8,375 in 2011 to 8,465 this year.
This is a reduction on the 5 per cent employment increase seen in 2011 but is still a positive and stable level of growth, especially in comparison to the national average; a recent report by employer's group IBEC says it will be 2014 before the national jobs market starts showing any sign of growth again.

Only four of the firms recorded a slight reduction in staff numbers. Of the ten who enjoyed employee growth PricewaterhouseCoopers recorded the largest increase, growing by 97 people from 2,577 last year to 2,674 in 2012.

The prospects for future employment are also strong. Our survey on their recruitment intentions shows that these companies intend to recruit 1,469 people between June 2012 and June 2013. This is an increase of 3 per cent on recruitment figures recorded between June 2011 and June 2012. According to Brian Folwer, managing director of Accountancy Solutions, smaller and mid-size firms are beginning to recruit again and larger firms are now looking for specialists in new areas like transfer pricing.
