Fifth and seventh largest accountancy firms, Grant Thornton and FGS, to merge creating fifth force under Grant Thornton banner Back
The two companies have agreed to merge, subject to regulatory and competition approval. The newly merged Grant Thornton will be headed by Grant Thornton's current managing partner, Paul McCann.
August 5th 2015: According to the Finance Dublin annual accountancy fee income survey, 2014, aside from the Big Four, PwC, KPMG, Deloitte and EY, the top 20 accountancy firms in Ireland has a second tier group of four firms - Grant Thornton, BDO, RMS Farrell Grant Sparks, and Mazars, the smallest of which, (Mazars), had a fee income in 2013-2014 of €28.5 million compared with the largest Mid Table Firm Baker Tilly Ryan Glennon, with €15.6 million.

The combined firm will have over 750 staff and 51 partners.

Grant Thornton’s Managing Partner, Paul McCann said that RSM Farrell Grant Sparks “fits well with the overall culture of Grant Thornton. This consolidation will serve to increase competition within the larger Irish firms, particularly in the areas of audit and taxation, as well as the growing market for corporate finance advisory services."

Managing partner with RSM Farrell Grant Sparks Jim Mulqueen said: “This is a very positive move for both businesses. This provides an enhanced service offering which will provide clients with access to an even greater range and depth of experience and skills”.
