| Description: |
We are seeking a highly motivated Accounts Officer to join the Finance Section of EMBL. The post holder will be responsible primarily for the supervision of German creditors, the accounting of special projects and additional accounting tasks. Checking and processing payments, as well as other bookkeeping tasks as may be required. In addition, (s)he will carry out monthly checks of the accounts and make preparatory end-of-year balances for the annual accounts.
Contract: An initial contract of 3 years will be offered to the successful candidate. This can be renewed, depending on circumstances at the time of review.

| Required Skills: |
The ideal candidate has a relevant education in accounting or at least 5 years professional accounting experience. Excellent practical knowledge of bookkeeping is required. (S)he will be familiar with debtors, creditors, prepayments and accruals, cost centres and cash flow. Experience in working with at least one of the most common accounting systems, preferably SAP, is necessary. A good working knowledge of the usual office software packages is desirable. Knowledge of German taxation law would be advantageous. Fluency in either English or German is required, with an excellent working knowledge of the second language. The Accounts Officer should be used to working independently but will also enjoy being a member of a team. In addition, the post holder should have good communication and interpersonal skills. |
